Unarmed Grey Dog Security guards play a crucial role in ensuring that GRHC’s residential properties remain safe, welcoming, and well-managed. Our guards support the safety of residents and staff through visibility, professionalism, and rapid response.

From routine patrols to conflict de-escalation and incident prevention, our team ensures each property remains secure. We will collaborate with GRHC’s management to identify potential risks, improve site protocols, and promote tenant trust through a consistent, friendly presence.

Developing Relationships with Management and Tenants

Grey Dog Security guards foster a sense of community by building respectful and positive relationships with tenants and staff. Our approachable, attentive guards help residents feel comfortable and valued.
By learning residents’ names, assisting with day-to-day concerns, and addressing issues such as noise complaints or access problems, our team creates an atmosphere of reliability and compassion.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training

Grey Dog Security guards undergo Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training, empowering them with techniques for de-escalating volatile situations calmly and respectfully.
This training focuses on early intervention, communication, and non-violent strategies to prevent harm and reduce conflict.

By equipping guards with empathy-driven skills, CPI training ensures that every encounter — whether with residents, visitors, or staff — is handled with patience, professionalism, and respect.
Our next CPI session is scheduled for late November, reflecting our ongoing commitment to continued education and preparedness.

Paylocity Time Management and Reporting Technology

We utilize Paylocity, a comprehensive cloud-based time management and reporting system, to maintain real-time oversight and accountability across all properties.

This platform allows guards to clock in securely, record incidents, and share updates instantly with management teams. Supervisors and managers use these reports during regular site visits, ensuring consistent performance, adherence to GRHC protocols, and prompt communication regarding security matters.

The result is a transparent, reliable system that strengthens trust and operational efficiency.

Mount Mercy Apartments

Located at 1425 Bridge Street NW, Mount Mercy Apartments continues GRHC’s mission of providing affordable, secure, and supportive housing for seniors and adults with disabilities. Originally built as a Catholic convent and private school, the property was acquired by GRHC in 1991 and renovated into retirement apartments for residents aged 55 and older, with an additional 55 units added in 2005. The community now offers 180 one-bedroom apartments across 30 park-like acres just northwest of downtown Grand Rapids. Eligible residents receive a federal rental subsidy, ensuring rent does not exceed 30 percent of household income, promoting both affordability and independence within a serene, natural setting.

Grey Dog Security proposes a service approach for Mount Mercy that balances peace of mind with compassionate presence. Our team will focus on maintaining a welcoming yet vigilant environment, tailored to the needs of senior and disabled residents.

We will partner closely with GRHC’s on-site management to:

• Monitor access points and shared spaces for safety and comfort
• Support emergency preparedness and coordinate with staff as needed
• Conduct routine safety audits and ensure continuous protocol compliance

All assigned guards will receive Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Basic Life Saving / Stop the Bleed training to ensure calm, capable responses to medical and behavioral incidents. Through this collaboration, Grey Dog Security will help sustain Mount Mercy as a secure, respectful, and community-centered living environment where residents can thrive with confidence and dignity.
